Dr. Norman Shealy, M.D., PhD Life Beyond 100 - Secrets of the Fountain of Youth. Forword by Caroline Myss. Book review by Scott Sulak, BCH, CHT

Last year I had the pleasure of connecting with Norman Shealy after being introduced by his good friend Caroline Myss. Norm and I talked for at least an hour about various topics ranging from hypnosis, health and fitness, to past lives.

As I remember, he told me that in one of his lives he was born in 1897 in England and went on to tell me details about where he lived and how he died. I distinctly remember him telling me that he planned on living (this life) to the ripe old age of 147.

After reading his new book, Life Beyond 100 - Secrets of the Fountain of Youth, I'm beginning to think he may be right!

Norm demonstrates how the average life expectancy is 76.9 years, but if we simply add a few lifestyle changes such as:

  • not smoking
  • low body mass index
  • no street drugs
  • minimum alcohol,
  • and plenty of exercise

you can add almost 25 more years to your life.

He offers practical tips on autogenic training (self-hypnosis), controlling stress, exercise, sleep, depression, details the importance of drinking water, and offers many more easy-to-do lifestyle changes that will quickly add up to more LIFE.

I was struck by the statistics offered in the book concerning what he calls pharmacomafia, and the selling out of America’s health to the greed and lust of the pharmaceutical industry. Shealy estimates that more than 659,000 deaths occur each year due to drugs.

There are dozens of tips for overcoming common ailments from migraines to meuniere’s syndrome which are  holistic, non-invasive and naturally drug-free. If you want to live to 100, you need to find ways to extend your life - and drugs do not fit into the equation according to this very well documented and easy to read book.

Some basics for Everyone, according to Dr. Shealy;

  • Exercise at least three hours weekly of moderate activity. Optimal is seven to fourteen hours (IF you want to make it to 140!)

  • Thirty minutes of daily deep relaxation (autogenic, meditation…etc.)

  • Avoid negative news (isn’t most news negative?), avoid violent movies and TV

  • Appreciate the Divine!

  • Spend at least one hour outside each day

  • Have sex two to three times weekly

  • Drink two quarts of fresh water each day

Readers will enjoy the casual and straightforward approach Norman uses in his latest book. A quick read, replete with many insightful tips you can incorporate into your life immediately. This is the 23rd book of his career, and with the type of life expectancy he is sure to enjoy, it won’t be his last!
